I’m Marty Deason, and I have a passion for triathlons, and endurance racing in general. I’m a USAT Level 1 coach, and have coached everything from bowling, to basketball, to running, and now triathlon.
Even though I have participated in various sports since I was young, like a lot of people, I gained weight throughout my adult life. Eventually, it got to the point where I was a poor example of fitness for people that I was trying to coach. Running and triathlon helped me lose the extra weight that I had gained over time. Now, I’m 40 lbs lighter than my heaviest, and am living testimony to the health benefits of this lifestyle.
Since catching the running/triathlon bug in 2010, I have completed over 75 races, from full-distance Ironman, to sprint triathlons, and 5k’s to Ultra-marathons. I’ve achieved a Boston marathon qualifying time twice, and have podium finishes at triathlons and running races. From a coaching standpoint, I have developed customized training plans for just about every race distance – 5k to Ultra-marathon, sprint to full-Ironman.
As an adult-onset swimmer (I learned when I was 44), I understand how intimidating the swimming portion of a triathlon can be. My philosophy is “if I can learn to swim, anyone can.”
I have a passion for seeing others set and achieve racing goals – whether it be to complete a 5k, qualify for the Boston Marathon, or complete a triathlon. I firmly believe that a structured training program can help someone achieve results beyond their expectations!!
